E3 2010 - EA's New Gun Club of Honor

EA has really gone out with their participation in first person shooters lately. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 has been a huge hit. Such a hit, in fact, that it has inspired EA to create a new group, which they call The Gun Club. The Gun Club is a group for players who love EA shooters (not the drinks at their after-hours parties) and want to be kept in the loop about upcoming projects, events, etc. One of the things members get is access to Beta programs early.

One of the early Betas you can get access to as a Gun Club member is the new Metal of Honor: Tier 1 (which is just being called Metal of Honor, but since we have already had one of those, we will use a full title), scheduled to hit shelves this October 12. The multiplayer Beta is scheduled for release on June 21, but Gun Club members can get it this week!

The new game is a team effort between two studios - DICE and EA's Los Angeles studio. Each are known for their prowess in either single or multiplayer, so together EA hopes to make a game that is almost 2 fully playable games in one.

It is obvious which part they are most proud of, however. Today, at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), we got the chance to see a full 24 person multiplayer game demo and we were blown away. There were so many people playing the game together that they ran out of room on the stage. They could only fit 18 people out front, so 6 played off stage. Now THAT is a massive game!

One thing they made clear while playing was that you cannot camp. If you stay in one place too long waiting for something to happen, the game will make something happen. Such as, a missile might just happen to land on your head. Some players might not like this idea, but it certainly levels out the game some for newer players who don't know the maps and don't know where people might be hiding.

All in all, it appears EA is going to make 2010 a big year for their shooters.
