E3 2011 - Partners Bury the Lead

EA didn't just show off their own projects- they also showed projects from the EA Partners program. This is a collection of developers who are independent but publish through EA. Several notable developers are in the list, including Respawn Entertainment. Three Partners showed their wares on the EA stage this year: DICE, Insomniac Games and 38 Studios.

Jon covered what DICE had to show off - Battlefield 3 - the latest in the Call of Duty competition series from EA's Partner. Jon will do the game more justice than myself, but suffice it to say, I'm impressed and I don't like the FPS genre.

What did the other guys have to show? Hit the break to find out.

38 Studios started it off with Reckoning, a Fable-style game with a twist. What is the twist, is what you are most likely wondering. Well, it's that the game looks incredibly playable. I have always found myself just intrigued enough by the Fable franchise to keep following it but never enough to go out and purchase the game. This one, on the other hand, is a game I think I will actually pick up and try out. It is important to note that the founder of the company is a former MLB pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, but don't let that stand in your way of getting excited about the game. Every game has its faults.

Insomniac Games was next to show off a non-PS3 exclusive title, Overstrike. We have described the game as a combination of the odd characters from Team Fortress 2, the gameplay of Counter-Strike and the dark humor of Portal. Clearly these guys are big Valve fans because they took the best of each game and combined it into one awesome package. You have 4 misfits teamed up to accomplish some goal, but it really seems like the goal is less than the focus. The overall dark yet cartoony feel they gave it is really what draws us to the title. While the style is not out of the ordinary for Insomniac, it is certainly refreshing to know it is not going to be a PS3 exclusive.

Next came DICE and I recommend you check out the article about their game, as it is truly spectacular. Also, be sure to check out the rest of the games when they come out on a console near you.
