Captain America Gets His Actor

The road to picking Captain America for the upcoming The First Avenger: Captain America and The Avengers films has been a long one. There has been a lot to consider when casting any of these iconic roles. The short-list has been parsed and, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the winner is - Chris Evans.

You will know Chris Evans from his time as the Human Torch in the less-than-stellar Fantastic Four films. While the films were plagued with bad story design and implementation, Evans did the best he could with what he was given. Apparently they guys at Marvel want to see exactly what he can do with a product that isn't bad right off the line.

Obviously, if he is cast in another Marvel role, that will ensure that we will never see this Fantastic Four cast ever again. Not that there was much doubt there would be no further interference from them, but this should settle the little doubt there might have been. There has been a lot of talk about a second take on the Fantastic Four, as well as a Silver Surfer solo project, both of which are made easier if they ensure the old cast cannot regroup.

If the Avengers series is successful enough to continue in film form, the Fantastic Four does show up throughout the storylines, so they will need to prepare for that possibility. The two problems the studio will have are scheduling conflicts and getting people to forget Evans as the Human Torch. I think the first will be easy to work around, despite a contract to film a movie this summer at the same time Cap was supposed to film. On the other hand, with such a sour taste left from the F4 movies, it will be harder for them to separate him from that role. If anyone can do it, it will be Captain America, though.

What do you guys think? Good casting choice or huge disaster? Let us know in the comments!
