What's Up With Mass Effect 3?

As we all know, BioWare's highly anticipated sequel, Mass Effect 2, hits Xbox 360 in a couple weeks on January 26th. Another known fact about the franchise is that it is actually going to be a trilogy. As expected, Mass Effect 2 was mentioned during the Microsoft presentation at CES 2010 in Las Vegas last week. The question that was on all of our minds was not about Mass Effect 2 but actually Mass Effect 3. Unfortunately, not much info was given about this future title by Casey Hudson, BioWare Project Manager but he did give us a few hints about the final piece of the Mass Effect series puzzle.

Hudson confirmed that Mass Effect 3 is already being worked on, as they are getting the story together as well as aiming to release the game before the next gen system cycle hits. Hudson also said that this was the goal of the franchise right from the get-go, stating that:

We always wanted to make sure that we got the entire trilogy of games done within this console's life cycle. We didn't want to take forever with it.

This leaves opens about a three year window of time for BioWare to end the trilogy in the way it deserves. We know that BioWare is also working on downloadable content for ME 2 and that it took about 2 1/2 years to develop. That being said, this brings a question to mind. Will working on both downloadable content as well as a full game affect either product in a negative way, or will BioWare follow their traditions of not releasing a game until it is 100% ready, possibly causing a conflict with their goal of releasing ME 3 within this generation of gaming consoles?

My guess is no simply because this isn't BioWares first time at the rodeo and at least, in my opinion, BioWare rarely disappoints when it comes to delivering a quality game. Only time will tell and we will just have to wait and see what happens with the franchise throughout the year.

What do you guys think? Will DLC and full development conflict or can BioWare handle the pressure? Let us know in the coments section below.
