The possibility of a 3D printer in every home is a reality that might not make sense to all, but it does make sense to the team at New Matter. They have worked hard to produce a 3D printer, the MOD-t, that is affordable enough to be a home accessory. To show off the abilities of their printer, they brought in some printed items to show.
For a 3D printer in the home to be possible, it is important to be able to produce models without any experience. To help with this process, the company offers an online store with pre-made models that can be printed as-is - some for free and others for a fee. All major formats are supported, meaning you can use any designer to make your own models.
The only setback is that it is a single head printer, meaning that only a single color can be printed at a time. Of course, you can change the color mid-run, so there are ways around it. It just means that complex designs either cannot be accomplished, or must be single-color. The MOD-t will be available this summer for $400.
